“From the days when your word was worth more than a thousand contracts” – Abruzzo’s traditional liqueur for toasting a signed deal
Ratafià made by Scuppoz in Abruzzo, central Italy. Local tradition has it that once a contract had been signed in front of a notary, everyone raised a glass of ratafià to seal the agreement. The name itself comes from the Latin “ut rata fiat” – “so that the agreement be ratified”. Juice from amarena cherries grown in the hills is combined with Montepulciano, the local red wine, and hand-macerated. Dark in color, with the body of the wine and plenty of cherry flavor. Serve chilled at 2–8°C with dessert after dinner.
